Classic film novelist, television producer, and independent filmmaker James Kahn has used the popular crowdfunding platform Indiegogo to successfully raise the first round of funds for his latest project, Wrongside Bob. The film crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo will continue as an In Demand project, including a half-off sale on extremely rare film memorabilia rewards from franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, Poltergeist and more.
With raising funds as the first major obstacle to getting film projects off the ground, the filmmakers have taken an innovative stance in their tactics for raising money, embracing the independent filmmaking community on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo.com. Having met its goal, the project will now move into Indiegogo’s InDemand program. The InDemand program, launched earlier this year, allows successful campaigners to continue to raise funds for popular projects to meet their stretch goals after their initial campaign goals have been met.
“This is a narrative inspired by my own music, which is not only some of my best writing, buts hews closest to the heart,” says Kahn. This is a passion project for Kahn, who has spent most of his screen career crafting stories for other producers.
Wrongside Bob is slated to begin principal photography in 2016 and anticipates release at the end of that year. The independent feature film musical stars distinguished actor, singer, and songwriter Ronny Cox (Deliverance, Robocop, Total Recall) in the title role as a quirky old bar fly with a dark secret and welcomes screen newcomer Gabbie Rae, rising 17-year-old rock star featured on VH1’s Best Week Ever. Key production personnel include award-winning feature film producer Christine Fry, longtime Director of Photography Howard Wexler, and internationally awarded Editor Meni Philip. The production will donate a portion of its proceeds to the Enable Community Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) whose mission is to 3D print and give away prosthetic hands to children who need them.
