The AJC reports that by the year 2040 white voters will no longer be the majority of the population of Georgia. The article quickly descends into traditional liberal/conservative talking points. The general idea is that if there are less white people in charge then the Democrats will rule this state a few decades from now. People who advocate this point of view are making an easy statistical fallacy. You can’t extrapolate data and project into the future at a linear rate.
What if minorities stop voting for Democrats at the rates they do now? While the Democrats have a firm grip on the black population, the same is not necessarily true of Hispanic and Asian populations. Evidence exists that Asian Americans are breaking Republican as they climb up the socioeconomic ladder. As Hispanics and Asians grow in numbers in our state, they’re going to occupy high salary jobs. Statistically, they’re very likely to break Republican when they land those jobs.
While my theory is possibly wrong, so is assuming that everything will stay the same. Who knows what the Republicans will even stand for in 2040? Remember, it was President Nixon who created the liberal nirvana known as the EPA. Republicans and Democrats from different eras hardly resemble one another.
